Did you know that 4% of all Belgian buildings have some kind of protection? From now on, you can find them in Belmap, the 3D database of all buildings and addresses. Useful for insurers, real estate professionals and utility companies.
Heritage is devolved to the 3 regions, but in Belmap, you can now find all the information about protected buildings in one source. This shows whether a building or neighbourhood is inventoried (29%), established (53%) or actually protected (18%). In addition, Belmap draws a distinction in the type of heritage, ranging from architectural unit through cityscape to monument.
For a building with protected status, specific rules apply for maintenance works and renovations. This has implications for insurance contract coverage. Utility companies, for example, also have to consider restrictions on laying cabling on protected façades, which in turn has an impact on the management of their network.
